Magic! No security strap, yet oh-so-secure.
When the customer approached me about a holster and matching belt-mounted magazine pouch for a ten-year anniversary present, he wasn’t attached to any specific styling besides some color requests. His wife’s handgun was the same kind as my personal firearm, a Walther PPK 380 pistol. This made the next step easy– I showed him my vintage holster. With some general inspiration, I was off!
On a side note, if anyone out there on the interwebs knows where I can find more of the Franz-Loc heavy duty belt clip hardware pieces, LET ME KNOW!
These days we are all on a budget, so it’s understandable when people want to snap up the mass-produced leather products you see in specialty shops and sold online at places like Amazon. I have one opinion regarding leather craft that I will never budge on: keep it old school. Using the correct methods laid out by our maker-forepeople will create useable works of art that will last a lifetime or more. That includes tedious stamping, edge finishing, and casing leather.
The differences are in the details– this is what the dyed edges look like before some elbow grease.
All burnished and shined up!
Another look at an unfinished edge (what you usually see)…
…and the proper, old school, saddlery type of finish. ✨
